High Definition Newsletter Vol. 1 City Wireless (formerly Satellite City) January 17/08 Techno Line: A television displays the signal into visible lines composed of discrete picture elements called pixels. Resolution rate is the product of number of horizontal lines scanned for each picture produced per second. In high definition, the screen needs to be reproducing more horizontal lines than standard definition. The minimum number of lines reproduced for high definition is 720 lines, whereas standard definition scans 480 lines. Regardless of the type of scanning the set does (interlacing or progressive ) a high defintion picture has more horizontal lines, in addition to a higher number of electronic images reproduced per second. |

Welcome to the first edition of “High Definition,” our biweekly newsletter about the technology and
HD revolution! We’re on a mission to help educate the builders of Calgary, and the general public
about the brave new world of HDTV! We promise we will always be relevant, brief, and provide you
with information you need to know!
WELCOME TO THE NEW HD WORLD!
While many of us were sleeping, the world has quietly gone high definition! I say quietly, because it’s
over time, and with very little fanfare. In fact, I think it would be fair to say that many people aren’t
even aware of the revolution that’s taking place in their midst! More and more people everyday are
getting high definition televisions, and, nothing goes better with a high definition television than HDTV!
Here is the very latest statistics on Shaw cable Versus Bell:
Bell – 63 HD Channels
Shaw – 21 HD Channels.
I think it’s safe to say that, if there is a leader in this revolution, it is clearly Bell Satellite Television.
At present they have TRIPLE the number of HD channels. If this were a football game (in HD), I think
it would be safe to say that Bell is clobbering the competition!
However, I think it would also be fair to say that the satellite industry has not done enough to educate
the public about their HD success. The message isn’t getting out as fast as it should.
At Satellite City (Re-branded as City Wireless), we’re trying to do our best to educate the Calgary Area
builders about satellite and HDTV. We think it’s vital that the builders are made aware of what’s happening
in the market place, so they can make adjustments in the wiring specs of the homes they build. For the
benefit of Calgary and area builders, you can check out the satellite TV wiring specs on our website.
