In the new High Definition world, a higher quality of wiring is often needed to prevent degradation of signal quality.   You can no longer assume one grade of wire is good enough for every situation.

What you should know about coax cable.

Coaxial cable (coax for short) is ideal for multiple signals (such as composite, RF, S- Video and component) due to its very high impedance tolerance and its shielding.  In short, the impedance is a measure of how effective the cable is at minimizing interference from other electron magnetic sources. The shielding is necessary to effectively ground the cable and deflect unwanted signals into the ground so there is no interference with the video transmission.

A high definition signal can be more susceptible to outside interference, depending on how long the cable is.  The longer the cable, the more potential for interference, because the cable starts to act as an antenna.

Wiring for Satellite television, in particular, should be done by a company with extensive knowledge and experience, because Satellite Television has considerably more HD channels than cable TV (63 HD for Satellite versus 23 for Cable).
